A Little Birthday Magic

This card was such a joy to make — not only because it was for my husband’s birthday, but because it brought back some of my favorite older Spellbinders sets that hadn’t seen daylight in a while. I love rediscovering dies that remind me why I fell in love with paper crafting in the first place.
The design started with a playful idea: a couple under an umbrella, sharing a quiet moment. The lady’s legs move side to side — that’s me! — and I couldn’t help smiling as I assembled it. My husband is always dressed in his signature Vuori outfit, that soft agate green heather color, and I was thrilled to find cardstock that matched it perfectly. It felt like a little creative wink from the universe.

And of course, I had to include orange, his favorite color — cheerful, warm, and full of energy. The umbrella became the perfect place to showcase that pop of orange, balancing beautifully against the gray background.
Since he loves traveling and discovering new places, I chose a map‑pattern dry embossing folder for the background. It adds subtle texture and meaning — almost like a quiet reminder of all the places we’ve explored together and all the adventures still waiting for us. The embossed map gives the card a sense of movement and curiosity, which fits him perfectly.

We also have this sweet tradition at home — whenever one of us does something thoughtful without being asked, we call it “magic.” It’s our way of saying, “I saw your magic.” So when I found the die cut word “Magic,” I knew it belonged on this card. It captures the quiet, everyday kindness that makes our life together so special.
Note: The “Sage” cardstock color (used to cut out the shirt and pants) is from Spellbinders and is no longer available. The die set used to cut out the umbrella and characters is named “Sneaking a Kiss”, originally released as a Club kit for December 2023, and it is also no longer available. I apologize for using discontinued items. I really wanted to create something special for him, and this set felt perfect for the idea I had in mind. I hope the project still inspires you, even with these discontinued pieces.
